Following work on the draft 2035 plan's policy framework by the CAMPO Policies and Resolutions Committee, the CAMPO Transportation Policy Board released the document for public review and comment on April 12th.
Because the policy framework, including the draft Plan's goals, objectives and policies, is substantially different from what was distributed with the draft CAMPO 2035 Plan in March, the public comment period on the entire 2035 Plan, including the policy framework, has been extended until May 14th and a second public hearing on the draft Plan has been scheduled for May 10th.
"This is a draft document, meaning that this is the time to let us know what you think," said Sam Biscoe, Travis County Judge and CAMPO Chairman. "Moving forward, projects selected for federal funding must be in compliance with the plan document, a fact that illustrates the importance of this process."
This is the final step in a three-step process designed to give the public many opportunities to give input as the 2035 Plan moves toward adoption by the CAMPO Transportation Policy Board. For Round 1 of the planning process, the public was asked to help identify mobility issues affecting Central Texans. That input led to the development of three growth concepts for the region. In Round 2 residents were asked to choose which of the three growth concepts made the most sense for the region. Over 5,200 individual comments were submitted in the first two rounds of input.

The resulting draft 2035 Plan blends the "centers" concept, which encourages the development of high-density, multi-use centers throughout the region, and the "trend" scenario, which allows for roadway projects already planned and in the budget pipeline. In Round 3, CAMPO is asking Central Texans to look at the resulting draft of the 2035 Plan and provide feedback.
