Travis County Probate Court
Continuing Legal Education
The Probate Court’s “First Friday” CLE Brown-Bag Lunch Series continues on Friday, October 3, 2014, with “New to the Probate Court."
This CLE session is a very basic introduction to the Probate Court and to probate and guardianship, with a quick look at civil mental health commitments.
The CLE agenda will include the following:
Introduction to . . .
- probate courts, judges, and clerks
- the rules that apply in probate
A brief look at . . .
- probate options
- guardianships and alternatives
- administering probates and guardianships
- mental health commitments
- the Estates Code
- a look at some vocabulary
We’re serious when we say that this CLE is open only to those who are new to the Probate Court. Not only are newcomers the target audience, but we also don’t want to intimidate any newcomers by having others in the audience. Anyone licensed within the last year is welcome to come. Other than that, please don’t ask to attend if you’ve appeared in Probate Court more than once or twice.
We’ll meet from noon to 1:15 p.m. on October 3, with the actual CLE presentation scheduled from 12:15-1:15. Check-in will be in the hall outside room 217 of the Travis County Courthouse, 1000 Guadalupe Street. We’ll meet in Judge Herman’s courtroom.
The First Friday CLE is free, but sign-ups are required so we can guarantee enough space for the people who attend. If you’d like to come, please contact Tanya Scanlon, Court Coordinator, at Tanya.Scanlon@co.travis.tx.us. She will confirm successful reservations with an email in return. (To be fair to everyone who would like to come, we would appreciate your not signing up unless you are fairly certain that you will be there.)
