Animal Control Services
The Austin/Travis County Health and Human Services Department’s Animal Protection program defends threatened animals from abuse or neglect. We also work closely with law enforcement to contain or help aggressive animals that threaten the community.
To report public safety concerns or ask questions regarding the animal protection program please call 311 if you live in the city of Austin.

The Travis County Sheriff's Office has dedicated a detective to the full time investigation of animal cruelty. This officer investigates cases of animal curelty, including animal abusers, abusive animal breeders and animal hoarders who fail to take care of their pets. The Travis County Sheriff's Office Estray Unit protecst livestock from harm, theft or from roaming at large. Loose livestock or estrays are a major concern and create a danger of property damage and even death on our roadways. Learn more from the Travis County Sheriff's website.
