Forensic Medical Examiner Investigators investigate deaths in Travis County, perform scene investigations, collect evidence and develop decedents’ medical and social histories to assist the medical examiner in determining the cause and manner of death. Our Investigators have a wide range of backgrounds, including nursing, law enforcement, pharmacy, and anthropology.
Our staff consists of a Chief Investigator, a Forensic Nurse Investigator, and eight Forensic Medical Examiner Investigators. Three of our investigators are forensic anthropologists. Investigators work 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Currently, all of our investigators are Registered Medicolegal Death Investigators, certified by the American Board of Medical Death Investigators (ABMDI). Our Chief Investigator, Forensic Nurse Investigator and two Investigators are Board Certified by ABMDI.
