Judge Yvonne Michelle Williams was elected to the office of Justice of the Peace, Pct 1 Travis County in November 2010. Taking the bench in January 2011, Judge Williams is the first change in this bench in 35 years.
Judge Williams comes to Precinct One after serving as an Associate Municipal Court Judge for the City of Austin for 3 years. Earning her law degree from the University of Houston Law School, Judge Williams started her legal career as a civil rights trial attorney in the federal courts in the 1980's. She has been in Austin since 1989 where she served as a briefing attorney for Judge Morris Overstreet on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals, a hearings officer for the then Texas Workers' Compensation Commission for over 5 years, a practicing attorney for that agency before the State Office of Administrative Hearings for several years, and finally appointed to the Austin municipal court.
In addition to her judicial responsibilities, Judge Williams currently teaches legal writing at Austin Community College.
