Rural Black Schools Project
The Rural Black Schools Project was started by Berdie Calwell and has been continued for the last several years by Margarine G. Beaman. The project is seeking information regarding the Rural Black Schools of Travis County from 1920 through 1950.
If you were a student or teacher at one of the over forty rural schools in Travis County we would appreciate any information regarding teachers, students, courses taught, games played, the inside of the schools -- any information regarding these schools would be of great interest to us.
If your parents or grandparent attended one of these schools any pictures or other information you could provide would be a great help.
One item in particular we are looking for is a picture of a Rex Jelly Bucket that students used to carry their lunch to school.
If you have any information regarding the Rural Black Schools of Travis County please contact Margarine Beaman at 512-921-1625.
