Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program

The Comprehensive Energy Assistance Program (CEAP) provides services to repair, replace or retrofit inefficient heating and cooling appliances. The goal of this program is to help clients achieve energy self sufficiency by repairs or replacement of AC’s, furnaces, space heaters, wood burning stoves, refrigerators, or water heaters.

Assistance is available to qualified low income homeowners and renters as long as an energy savings can be demonstrated.

Water heaters are ranked third on the household energy consumption list. By increasing you water heater'sefficiency you can reduce your energy costs.

Other tips on lowering energy usage...

  • Lower the thermostat(s) on your water heater to 120°F.
  • Take more showers than baths. Baths use the most hot water in an average household.
  • Drain a quart of water from your hot water tank every 3 months to remove sediment that prevents heat transfer and lowers the unit's efficiency.
  • Insulate your hot water storage tank and pipes, but be careful not to cover the tank thermostat(s).
  • Repair leaky faucets and shower heads. A leak of one drip per second can cost $1 per month.
  • Install aerators in faucets and low-flow shower heads that may reduce your hot water consumption by half.
