Office of Children Services    Investing In the Success of Our Children

The Office of Children Services (OCS) is dedicated to policy development and coordination of service delivery for Travis County HHS&VS direct services, grant funded services and contracted community services for children and their families. OCS implements a continuum of strategies including prevention, intervention and treatment.

Specifically, these programs include home visiting initiatives such as Healthy Families and the CPS Social Services Unit, children’s residential care such as Triad and integrated funding initiatives such as the Youth & Family Assessment Center and the Children’s Partnership.

The Office of Children Services was created to strengthen the Department’s capacity to address the needs of children, youth and families in our community and to reduce the incidence of child abuse and neglect as critical factors in youth delinquency prevention.

Priority Goals

  1. Oversee the HHS&VS direct service programs for children and families including Healthy Families, Triad, and CPS Social Services Unit.
  2. Oversee HHS&VS involvement with the Children’s Partnership and the Youth & Family Assessment Center, both models for providing integrated, flexible funding in support of wraparound case management services.
  3. Oversee HHS&VS involvement with the Travis County Children’s Protective Services Board.
  4. Develop a continuum of services for children and their families including the creation of a framework for coordinated service delivery and strategies for prevention as well as needed treatment.
  5. Integrate system of care principles into all child serving practice in Travis County by promoting and modeling child-centered, family-driven, strength-based, culturally responsible services.
  6. Promote best practice models that have demonstrated success through validated evaluation.
  7. Establish clear expectations tied to county funds including fidelity to system of care principles, evidence of continuous quality improvement processes, and progress toward clear performance measures.
  8. Maximize county funds to leverage resources (i.e. state or federal match programs, external accreditation)
