The Travis County Department of Emergency Services (TCDES) provides leadership for the planning, coordination and delivery of public safety services to enhance the safety of Travis County citizens and visitors. The department emphasizes innovation, integrity and responsible stewardship of the public trust.
Emergency Management
Assists county departments, municipalities and other agencies in developing mitigation, planning, response and recovery documents for use during an emergency. Coordinates the County’s response and recovery efforts during disasters.
Fire Marshal
The office of the Fire Marshal is a law enforcement agency which provides inspections and investigates arson. The fire marshal also assists local fire protection agencies with technical advice and support.
Medical Examiner
Conducts medicolegal death investigations and performs forensic autopsies.
STAR Flight (Shock Trauma Air Rescue)
STAR Flight is a unique public safety air rescue program that performs everything from the transport of critically ill patients to fire fighting, and rescue to law enforcement.
Technology and Communications
Provides planning and analysis for county fixed and wireless communications.
