and Hard of Hearing
Case Management Services
Travis County Services for the deaf has four full-time case managers who are fluent in American Sign Language. Each case manager works with the general population in addition to specialized populations including hard of hearing, senior citizens, deaf families and individuals with multiple disabilities. Our case managers work with clients in a variety of situations including:
- Developing a service plan
- Problem solving
- Referrals to community services
- Explain and advocate for access to services
- Help with written documentation or phone calls
Appointments with Case Managers are generally 45 minutes in length. Case Managers can serve clients on a one-time basis or an ongoing basis. If you would like to access case management services, please call and schedule an appointment.
Interpreter Services
Travis County Services for the Deaf provides interpreters for all Travis County offices as well as the City of Austin Health Clinics and Municipal Court. Interpreters are also available for in office phone and document interpreting. If you are deaf and have an appointment with one of the above listed departments, request that they provide you with an interpreter. If you have any difficulty or would like one of our other services, contact our office.
Other Services
- Advocacy: Staff advocate for the adherence to the laws and equal access for individuals who are deaf to participate in local services and events.
- Legal Services Coordination: Assist individuals who are deaf and hard of hearing to navigate through the complex legal system.
- Outreach: Staff provide education, information and referral for those desiring to learn more about deafness and deaf culture.
- Special Projects: Staff coordinate donations for individuals for Christmas to provide gift certificates for single parents and gifts for those without families.
