Travis County Clerk Elections Division

Student Voters

Dana DeBeauvoir, Travis County Clerk, welcomes you to Travis County!

With one of the largest student populations in a single county within Texas, the Travis County Clerk is committed to providing a supportive environment for busy students who want to participate in the democratic process of voting.

If you are one of over 75,000 students living in Travis County, here is some information you should know:

Voter Registration

A student can choose to register to vote either in the county where their college or university is located OR in the county of their parents’ home. If you choose to register to vote here, you can do so upon moving to Travis County without a waiting period.
Please Note: In the state of Texas, you can register to vote only in one county, not multiple counties. You must be registered to vote 30 days prior to election day in order to be eligible to participate.
If you would like to register to vote in Travis County, please visit the voter registration web site at www.traviscountytax.org

Early Voting

If you are registered with Travis County, you can participate in early voting before any special, primary or general election. During early voting, you can vote at any early voting site regardless of your precinct. The Undergraduate Library or UGL on the University of Texas campus has served as an early voting permanent location for Travis County elections. In addition, Austin Community College campuses, St. Edwards University and Huston-Tillotson College regularly serve as mobile early voting locations.

Election Day

On election day, registered voters must vote at the poll located in their designated precinct. Polls are usually located in schools, churches or other public buildings located in the precinct. Polls are open from 7am to 7pm on election day.

Election Volunteers and Workers

Travis County Elections Division must hire over 1,500 temporary workers for various positions during an election. This opportunity requires that you are a registered voter of Travis County.

Voter Outreach

Only 42% of voters between the ages of 18-24 are registered to vote nationally, and only 33% of voters between the ages of 18-24 participate in Texas elections. Travis County Elections is continuously seeking the opportunity to develop new relationships and to collaborate with student organizations and programs to inform and educate students about the options and ease of voting in Travis County.
