Community Justice Plan
Overview
The Community Justice Plan was prepared by the Travis County Adult Probation Department (CSCD) and approved by the Travis County Community Justice Council (CJC).
The plan consists of a number of proposed programs for adult offenders placed on court-ordered probation for which the Adult Probation Department (CSCD) and other agencies will be seeking grant funding. These programs may be one of three types:
- New programs which have not previously received state funding, and may or may not be currently operational.
- Continuing programs which have existed before and will continue, unmodified.
- Modified programs which have existed before, and will continue with modifications.
Supporting information includes demographic data on adult offenders in Travis County, an inventory of existing community service programs, and information about the goals of the Adult Probation Department.
TDCJ-CJAD Approval
The plan is submitted to the Texas Department of Criminal Justice -- Community Justice Assistance Division (TDCJ-CJAD) for approval. TDCJ-CJAD may approve all or only some of the proposed programs. If a program is approved, it becomes eligible for state funding. If a program is not approved, TDCJ-CJAD explains how the program has failed to meet its criteria and gives the applicant agency an opportunity to modify the program for approval.
Funding and Vendors
While waiting for TDCJ-CJAD approval, The Travis County Adult Probation Department begins a competitive bid process to select contract vendors who will provide some of the services described in the program proposal. A contract is finalized only after TDCJ-CJAD approval is granted and funding has been secured.
Amendments to the Plan
The Community Justice Plan will be amended to include the names
of vendors selected to provide services. The plan may also be amended at any
time by the Community Justice Council to include new program initiatives.
